A job is what you do, while nurturing the dream.
I’ve had a job as a Virtual Assistant for the same company for seven years. It was offered to me around the time I was preparing to leave my marriage. It allows me to stay home with my daughter and support us financially.
I’m happy she was never home alone while I worked, but having this job weakened my face to face people skills. It’s easy to be kind from home.
Social media told me it was okay to stay home. I could use it to touch people. That was disappointing.

In December I was offered a job at our local Pizzeria. I’ve never worked in a restaurant, or run a cash register. I must not really look the part because people are surprised to see me behind the counter.
Heck, I’m surprised to be behind the counter!
It’s the most fun job I’ve had in a long time.
My past jobs have been serious business. They were performance oriented and I tend to push myself to succeed at what’s in front of me. This is different.
I’m there to be kind. Not overachieve.
I’ve been there long enough now where some of the same customers come in, and it’s like seeing family.
The kitchen staff is like family as well.
One of them asked me, “What do you do?”
I gave him my list of skills, helping to run a successful company but he didn’t seem impressed.
On the way out of the kitchen I commented, “And I’m a writer.” He raced out front and said, “Now you have my full attention!” Isn’t that funny?

It’s only two evenings a week which is perfect.
God pushed me out my front door and into this Pizzeria. I’m in training to be consistently kind. I pray ‘to be kind‘, before walking in the door.
My idea of a successful life, is a satisfied life.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Sometimes when you work at home, you will have less socialization with other people 🙂 .

Thank you for stopping by. Yes love, not being around people enough is how I wound up at a local pizza place two days a week. Have a day full of splendidness. 🙂

That sounds like a fab work family. I hear you on social media and working from home. Wrecks your face-to-face people skills, aye?
I’ve been meaning to pick up a job of some sort myself. Anything will do. Something part time maybe to get me out of the house and meet people in my new corner of the world.

Hello my friend! It’s so good to see you here. xx
It’s a lot of fun and very rewarding. That’s exactly why I did it. To get out of the house, and interact with people. It was surprising how difficult it was to interact at first. Like I had forgotten how!
I hope you get out there and find someone who needs your help. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it makes us a better person. xxx
Much love to you Peter! xxx

Cheers, mate. You’re right, there. Just printing off the CVs and going for a walk around the local towns (rather small) industrial estate is a bit of a mental challenge!
Grats to you for getting out there and on with it.

Excellent! Walk around and see what interests you. I ordered from the pizza place some weekends when my daughter was at her Dad’s, so I already loved the product!
I asked if they needed any part-time help, and they told me to write down my info and why I wanted to work there. You being the King of pun will appreciate this….I wrote, “I’m a writer just looking to make some extra dough.” Hah! Get it? Pizza place 🙂 Thank you my friend. xxx

That’s great , moving on and developing toward something you desire – and being satisfied. Many people experience “success” but miss out on the satisfaction of life itself. 🙂

Kindness is important giving and receiving it. I give kindness so easily but had to ask God to send me kind people in return. We also deserve kindness. I can imagine it is fun working in the Pizzaria and there will be many to give kindness too. Love it.

Yes lovely. xx I learned that lesson the hard way. xx
Our inner circle is who we consistently receive kindness from. They keep our cup full so it can flow onto others. It’s a lot of fun! Thank you lovely! xxx
