Making a Mistake

To follow my heart a little bit more.

That’s what I want to do, but that voice of reason came calling this morning and warned me of past mistakes. Was it really a mistake, or just part of the path that landed me here?

This quote was in my FaceBook memories.

I’ve learned so much from my mistakes, I’m thinking of making a few more.

My daughter and I have made so many mistakes, we have a little book entitled, ‘Never Again.’ In the book is a list of things we’ve tried, but they turned out to be mistakes. It’s quite humorous.

If you’re making mistakes, you’re a doer.

You’re consistently trying new things and that’s good. I don’t dwell on the word, ‘mistake.’ If that were the case, I’d still be in an unhappy marriage and my life would be completely different. I’m not sure I’d still be sober.

If we confide in others with our decisions, they may say, “You’re making a mistake.” If they have experience in that area, that’s wisdom. If they don’t, it’s merely their opinion sprinkled with fear.

It’s called blind faith for a reason.

As my daughter often says, “If it isn’t scary, it isn’t brave.” Don’t be afraid of making a mistake.

  1. It’s not so much about making mistakes as it is about embracing failure. If people always are afraid of failure they do nothing. I’m sure you’re familiar with the speech, The man in the arena.

  2. “Never Again” does sound like fun reading. And I often think that “playing it safe” is the same thing as sitting still, which isn’t usually all that much fun. Great post, Barb!

    1. It’s hilarious! We joked for years about writing it down, so we actually do that now! You can sit still while playing it safe. I see it as walking the outline of a room. Staying close to the wall until you’re ready to stick a toe in. Thank you Des!

  3. This reminded me of a Neil Gaiman New Year’s Wish – I think I put it on my blog (maybe I just posted it to FB – don’t recall at the moment) – I’d like to share it again if I may –

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.

So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.
Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.
Make your mistakes, next year and forever.” ~ Neil Gaiman

  4. I have made many, like Ann says it is how we grow, we learn what we like and what we do not. When others comment perhaps they are not quite looking at the risk as we are and also they may not have the courage to do it, oh I have had many ney sayers in the past. “Ooo I would not do that” “heheh”

Check out the mistake your soul is referring to and make sure you do not repeat it. Take care and Blessings

    1. Your response made me laugh. That little bit of Rebel in you when they say, ‘Don’t’, you say, ‘watch me.’ Hehehe

It wasn’t one in particular I was referring to. I’m just at that age in life where the fewer wrong choices are better. You know as well and I do, that much of life is learning. The teacher is watchful, yet usually quiet during the test.

Thank you Nanette. May you be happy and well. ❤
