The Draft Folder

I’m being drawn toward the draft folder, so I’ve dedicated the month of December to cleaning out drafts. If you see a random post that doesn’t quite go with the flow, you’ll know Barb finished a draft. 🙂

A full draft folder used to feel overwhelming. There are no stacks of paper piled up on my desk because it feels like clutter, but the draft folder felt like stacks of paper, so once it piled up, it was sorted through.

Some were trashed, but most were published. There were posts sitting in there for years, but that’s when the old rule that works in all areas of my life came into play. “If it hasn’t been used in a year, it’s probably not gonna be used.” December is a good month to declutter.

Think of drafts as stories waiting for their Writer to return. There are six drafts in my draft folder, but if you’re reading this, it went down to five.

What’s waiting for you in your draft folder?

  1. I have way more than drafts. I have countless emails that include countless links to countless thoughts on which I still want to expound. At least they are classified, though! It’s only taken me 5 years to catch up on the emails I skipped over but still want to look at to see if there’s something there I might want to write about someday. That’s why I’m just over a month behind in sharing my thoughts on your post re drafts!

    1. Hello and thank you for sharing. Oh yes, I have emails too of thoughts, photos, inspiration just waiting to be written. I had to file some of them away in a folder because it was a little bit ridiculous of the sheer amount. All in due time lovely. xx

  2. My draft folder…laughs at me. Like, “We’re still here. Your words. Do something.” It is slowly becoming my friend especially with the World is hitting us in such plummeting waves. There’s a post/publish required. 🤷🏽‍♀️🥰

    1. Hah. Mine says the same thing in a taunting voice. My goal is to have it completely shared by the end of the month, but as you know, my plan is not always THE plan. I’d love to read more posts of your words. *Required.* ❤

  3. I think I’m the only person on WordPress who has no drafts except for when I was trying to upload pictures onto media while using my iPad….I either write or don’t write. There is no draft for me

    1. I think you post daily, so it’s makes sense to not have any drafts. Mine come from ideas while focused elsewhere, so I can come back and fully focus. At this stage of my life, I’m doing good to post a couple of times a week. Thank you for sharing LA!

  4. You sound like you have a handle on things. I write every day, sometimes for hours, but I just don’t know about posting most of it. I’ve had around 20 to 25 WordPress drafts for most of 2020, and many more on my hard drive. I started trashing my WordPress drafts just last week, so now I’m down to 12. Like you, I find it overwhelming sometimes.
I’m anxious to see what you decide to post next. Will it be one of your drafts, or will you get inspired and finish a post in one sitting? Interesting post, Barb!

    1. Wow Des. You spend a lot of time writing. Why are you unsure about posting it? My guess would be it’s too personal? I encourage you to post one and don’t go back in and delete it. 🙂

You’re dwindling them down just like me. I can relate to storing them up. Every now and then I email myself a photo to use in a Blog, but don’t always use them. Then I get to clean out my email too!

Thank you Des, as always for your thought filled comment. I’m curious to see if it will be a draft, or an inspired post in one sitting too. This morning, I’m feeling pretty inspired, but will let you know! 🙂

      1. Please do, Barb, that’s cool that you’re feeling insired this morning. I enjoyed reading about what motivates you and how you organize, it sounds a little like my own writing process. I’m curious if you’ll whack your drafts down to only four!
