Taking care of your own heart.
It’s something nobody else can do for you. It’s yours, and can only be cared for by you.
It’s trying to get your attention. What it wants, and what you need, are one in the same.
You just may not realize it yet.
My heart is saying it’s time for rest.
A fresh start with a rested heart.
To write what scares you.
I have to say, I don’t do that, but am willing to try. The scariest thing for me is an intimate, one on one relationship, with a man. I haven’t been able to obtain a lasting one, so I stopped being open to that.
It’s going to be up to God, not me. I have a list of reason’s ‘not to’ participate worthy of a scroll. Like other women my age, I know what I don’t want. That’s easy, but I’m now at a loss of what I do want. Life is simpler alone, but we’re not designed to be alone.
I had a conversation with God over the weekend about it. I was driving into town, just laying it at his feet. On the way back home, I saw a church marque that said,
God created you for more than what you settled for.
Have I settled into this life?
Last night, I went to our local pizza place to pick up dinner. A gentleman who works there opened the door, and stood there holding it open, even though I wasn’t allowed to walk in. I chatted with one of the cooks, took our dinner, and turned to leave.
The receipt fell to the ground, and I paused to bend down and pick it up.
The stranger holding the door said,
Just keep doing what you’re doing, and you’ll be alright.
I thought that was an odd thing for a complete stranger to say, so it must have been a message from above.
Messages like that are for all of us.
I asked Google to tell me a joke.
She said, “Why does the scarecrow keep being promoted? Because he’s outstanding in his field.”
After that, I feel better about my jokes, and it made me think of this song.
This is one of those country songs that makes my daughter cringe. She doesn’t care for it much, because she knows how easily it can become a reality.
Our first home together, living solo, was on 40 acres. The drive to the house was down this long, winding country road. It was beautiful, but you felt like you were out in the middle of nowhere. This song had been released around that time.
During the drive, you would see these huge piles of wood out in the middle of empty fields. With a lit match, that would become somebody’s Friday night.
Songs like this bring out that little bit of crazy Redneck I have ingrained in me.
I drive a truck, and boots, jeans and a t-shirt are still my favorite clothes.
What is it they say? “You can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl.”
We’re outstanding in our field.
There’s something about a screen door.
The hinges always squeak when you pull it open, and I have no fancy to oil them. It’s part of it’s charm. Then, that slam once released.
It’s like announcing, “I’m home!”
This house didn’t have one when we moved in. Our previous houses did, and it was my most favorite thing this time of year.
Especially first thing in the morning, when the night air is mixed in with the new day.
My neighbor installed it for me last fall. Afterwards, he asked what kind of handle I wanted to use. I stepped inside and found a pull in the shape of a heart. It didn’t surprise him that a heart would be used for the handle, and he seemed pleased by it.
It’s entertainment for the doggos.
They watch wildlife visit the front yard, and get over excited when someone walks by. Especially if they’re walking a dog.
I hope you have a screen door.
If not, you need to visit someone who does. Give it a pull, and listen for the squeak. When you step inside, let it slam. May you feel at home after stepping through the screen door.
I was looking at files saved to the desktop of my laptop and thinking, “It really shows who you are.”
A man I work with asked me to help him test some software. He needed to assist a client remotely, so I let him access my computer. When he was done clicking around, he backed out of the program and could see my desktop.
There was a long pause.
Like, “Barb? What is all of that?”
Memes and pictures for Blogs.
Pretty pictures and inspirational quotes. I would imagine his desktop looked different than mine. He’s a business man, so there’s probably a lot of Excel spreadsheets. When he asked me to open a program like Excel, I had to search my computer to find it. 🙂
Here’s one saved on January 1st.
Someone asked me, “What are you passionate about?” I responded, “Anything I choose to do will be fueled by passion.”
Otherwise, I have to make myself do it, but sometimes that’s good. It gets me out of my comfort zone and I find a new passion.
I will file the memes into their designated folder, but that will just open up space for more. I’ve never had too many memes.
In a line up of opened laptops, could you pick out the one that belongs to you?
What’s on your desktop?
That’s what we would say to a colleague. I need just two minutes of your time. Of course, there was no timer set, so it turned into a 30 minute brain storming session.
Like my Blogger friend, Still a Dreamer, today’s circumstances are not really affecting me. I’ve worked from home the past 10 years, so yes…make it mandatory that I stay home. I’ll just read and write!
There are many that their world has turned upside down. I don’t have a house full of kids, or a husband home. (God be with you)
This morning I offered to make my daughter a cup of tea. She asked that I set the timer for two minutes and periodically steep the tea bag inside the cup.
I had to stand still for this and chose to gaze out the window. A male and female Cardinal were digging through the leaves looking for seed. I made a mental note to put some more out in the yard for them.
In a blink, the timer rang and two minutes had passed. Instead of looking at the whole day ahead, which can be overwhelming, break it down into a few minutes.
Set a timer and make yourself a cup of tea. Stand still, taking in your surroundings, and soak up those minutes. Breathe and make an announcement, I just need two minutes.
Repeat as often as needed.
