In Human Form

As I sit here, eating the last of the candy corn, I’m noticing the change in season. Candy corn will not be available in stores until next October. I don’t hunt it down and hoard it, but enjoy it while it’s in season.

Now is the last bloom of the season for my trusty Bougainvillea. This plant has been a teacher. Being tempted many times to give up on it and circumstances, it showed me with the proper watering and food, it will be spectacular. Throw in time and patience and beauty abounds. When it has everything it needs and the timing is just right, every branch blooms.

Soon, I will cut it back and tuck it away in the barn for a season of rest. I learned from last year, to cut it back more. Last summer was it’s first full blooming season, and I was leery of cutting it too much last fall. It’s getting cut way back this year, so I can get it out of the hanging basket. Maybe next year I’ll plant it firmly in the ground so that it can take root.

My initial reaction to the thought of planting it in the ground was to make sure I was going to be in this same house. To be able to enjoy it, I would need to be here, but it’s not always about me. This time, it’s what is best for this faithful plant. God moves swiftly in my life, so He will let me know where I am to be. The lease is up April 3rd, right before planting time.

When we are ready, the teacher will appear and it is not always in human form.

Just Being Me

There is a reason it feels good to be loved when we are going through pain. That is why we go to a funeral home, to see the family of the deceased, to show them we care and help them through their loss.

I love the way SC Lourie writes. It’s like her very soul breathes and forms words on paper. Plus, she begins each writing with the word, ‘darling’, in the opening line. Being from Texas, I find that to be sweet.

Do you ever feel accused of changing?

We do change, but I believe it’s a peeling process. God creates us to be whole and promises that we are enough. The outside world comes at us and our being can become hidden. Do we allow the world to change us, which is stealing our natural state of being, or do we continually look inside and release new parts of what was already there?

I believe love is very healing. No matter what has happened in our past, if we can come to terms with who we really are, and love ourselves, healing begins. To let go of every negative feeling and thought, and what other people think and say about us. To get to know your one true self and be good with sitting in your own skin.

I look back at this journey I began a couple of years ago, and it’s miraculous seeing the life I have today. It’s not what I did so much as what I gave up. Letting go of past hurts, peoples words and opinions of me.

If they’re talking about the person they once knew, I’m not her anymore. I was in there all along, but time, love and patience is bringing her out to bloom. I had to stop being what others wanted me to be, and just be me.

No Matter What

There is something about the weekend, that gives me a deeper sense of pleasure. It’s when I take extra time, walking through my world and noticing every little thing. What needs some extra attention and what grabs mine. Then that ADD moment when one of my fave songs comes on,  Somebody Like You, by Keith Urban.

The first thing that needed some love was my chickens.

I raised Exotics and Layers a few years ago, but today, I only have three. Could I handle more? Why sure, but three is enough for my daughter and me to enjoy. When you start to have more, there is more money and maintenance involved. Plus, they lay eggs and for two people, you don’t need many eggs. That is when you have to start selling them and it turns into a weekend business. Uh, no.

After the chickens, I turned on the sprinkler.

The ground is dry and they enjoy scratching the earth. I caught myself standing in my kitchen, staring at the sprinkler for several minutes. There is a trumpet vine growing along the fence that I would love to see bloom one more time. The sprinkler will make the chickens, the vine and the earth happy.

I fertilized the Bougainvillea yesterday going for one more massive bloom with it as well. There are two of these hanging from my front porch and they have been a labor of love. I have learned a lot watching these guys grow from twigs in the planters to the size they are now.

While enjoying everything on the porch, I forgot the water I had turned on for tea. Have become quite attached to Rooibos. Once it was ready, a full cup came with me to sit and write.

My daughter is at her Dad’s this weekend, otherwise today would look somewhat different. We would be enjoying the moments together, but probably in town instead of home. After spending many years driving her to swim, dance, martial arts, various activities and those weekend birthday parties, it’s nice to enjoy my world today.

It’s never too late to stop and start over.

Our life together hasn’t always been easy, but it is still beautiful. How many 16 year olds say, “Mom? We are a great team. We have each others back no matter what.” Not many.

A Better Way To Live~Day 15

I am so blessed that God prompted me to do this series through the holiday’s. Running into any Grinch’s?

Never allow anyone to rain on your parade and thus cast a pall of gloom and defeat on the entire day. Remember that no talent, no self-denial, no brains, no character, are required to set up a fault-finding business. Nothing external can have any power over you unless you permit it. Your time is too precious to be sacrificed in wasted days combating the menial forces of hate, jealousy, and envy. Guard your fragile life carefully. Only God can shape a flower, but any foolish child can pull it to pieces.

daisy

My daughter reads all my Blog’s and got her feelings hurt a little over the flower comment at the end. Who doesn’t enjoy plucking the petals from a daisy? So, we’re omitting ‘foolish child’, and replacing it with ‘anyone.’

Don’t allow anyone to rain on your parade. We are around a lot of family this time of year and there’s always someone negative, or non enthusiastic over our accomplishments. Don’t let them rub off on you! They have to live with themselves everyday and your time with them is temporary. They can only affect your mood if you allow them. You cannot change them. They have to want to change, so pray for change.

Pick and choose your circle carefully, because they are the ones that will influence your life the most. Surround yourself with positive people who love, appreciate, inspire, motivate and encourage you! Give back to them freely all the goodness you receive. Your life will manifest into full bloom and so will theirs. Merry Christmas.

A Better Way To Live~Day 2

You are valuable. You were designed by the Creator of the Universe and everything He makes is good. The book I’m using for this series, A Better Way to Live, by Og Mandino, was published in August 2009. The next suggestion for a better way to live reveals a drastic change in our society from then up to now.

Today, and every day, deliver more than you are getting paid to do. The victory of success will be half won when you learn the secret of putting out more than is expected in all that you do. Make yourself so valuable in your work that eventually you will become indispensable. Exercise your privilege to go the extra mile, and enjoy all the rewards you receive. You deserve them!

My favorite part of this rule is, ‘Make yourself so valuable in your work that eventually you will become indispensable.”

Greatness starts from within. Over the years, experiences, memories and actions accumulate and store up inside of us. It takes a process of Letting Go of all that, to have a clean slate to work with. By letting go of choices we made that brought us to where we are, we can clearly see where we are, and move forward from there.

You can create yourself to become indispensable.

One of the greatest fears in people’s lives is losing their job. There would be no fear if they knew they were irreplaceable.

I encourage you today to start building greatness within. Being the very best you can be in every aspect of your life will give you a fulfilled life. You cannot take care of anyone else effectively, until you take good care of yourself. Grow yourself and bloom exactly where you’re planted. Something beautiful doesn’t ask for attention, but always gets noticed.
