It’s a Choice

There are no bad days. I don’t invite them into my life. When Boss man asks, “How’s life Barb?”, he already knows what my answer will be. He knows I’m gonna say, “Beautiful! Life is simply beautiful!”

He receives the same, or similar answer every time. It’s my choice to either see life as beautiful, or not.

Yesterday, I began my cross stitch that says, ‘Carpe all the Diems.‘ I went to a different store in search of the materials needed. Once again, the bin for the recommended color was empty. This was the second store I had gone to so, I made a choice. I chose two colors that differed from the instructions.

A dark grey for the lettering, and silver for the crown. Sticking to the color used on the pattern wasn’t fruitful. It was time to choose for myself.

It’s overcast and rainy this morning.

I can choose for my mood to reflect the weather, or rise above it. Once my daughter left for class, I set the stage for the type morning I desired. Cozy.

It doesn’t matter what’s going on outside.

What matters is what’s happening inside.

I poured a fresh cup of coffee, lit a candle and sat down to do some cross stitch. Are you loving that basket? It’s wool with cotton trim. It was sitting on the bottom shelf all alone just screaming to go home with me! It holds my supplies and makes me smile.

What is your day looking like?

Remember my lovelies. It’s a choice.

Choose Your Mood

Thank you Seymour for being our Guest Blogger today. Enjoy!

wonderwomanYou ever have one of those days, weeks, months….lives….where you wake up just feeling like a grouch every morning?  Before you even get out of bed you are frustrated with the tasks of the day and feeling overwhelmed by the chaos of your schedule?  Haven’t made it to the coffee pot yet you just want to kick the dog and go back to bed and pull the covers over your head?  Well, good news, you are in great company.   Too many of us today experience this type of daily anguish.  We live at a break neck pace seldom taking time to regroup, refresh and rejuvenate ourselves.  All this leads to a chronic state of feeling out of sorts with the universe and makes us tired, troubled and frankly, quite irritable.

So, you’re thinking to yourself.…gee, that’s all true but it’s all well out of my control.  I challenge you to rethink that mind share and consider for a moment what your life would feel like if instead of waking feeling out of sorts with the world every day, you woke up and couldn’t wait to embrace the day.  The demands of your day haven’t changed yet you approach them with a vision seen through a totally different lens.  Just as a lens alters the convergence of light rays, as for magnification, or in correction of visual defects, you have the power to change the way you experience things and alter your mood.

Just like choosing what you are going to enjoy for breakfast, you are empowered to choose how your mind is going to control your day.  Happiness is, in fact, a choice.  One that is far too seldom selected by the vast majority of people but I challenge you to consider how your day would be altered if you subscribed to this philosophy for just one 24-hour period.  You owe it to yourself (not to mention those around you) to live with joy in your life.  Try it for just one day….make the commitment to yourself that regardless of your circumstances, you are going to approach each task with enthusiasm and the heartfelt pleasure that accompanies doing something well.

You’ll likely discover that your feel good state of mind is contagious and that those around you begin to notice your new approach to life and want some of it.  Imagine what it would be like to actually enjoy your daily activities and complete each day with a sense of fulfillment and completeness.  Pretty simple equation.  Change the viewing and you will change the doing.  You can do it.  Give it a go.

Speak Your Heart

follow-your-heart-quotes-2

I woke up early not only to a brand new day, but a new year. Mornings are a magical moment for me. Today there is a little extra anticipation knowing this morning begins a brand new year.

I am excited about a new year! Not for any particular reason, but I have been pondering some changes. At the end of the year, I like to ask myself, “What will I bring with me?”

Just like packing, and anticipating the journey, you look at the what you are taking with you.

I’ve decided this year to follow my heart more.

I am an over-thinker, and I can see today where that has not been my friend. Letting my head rule my heart has kept me from doing things that genuinely make my heart happy. The ‘what if’s’, set in and take over. My mind is good at creating scenarios that have never happened. So this year will be the year of listening to my heart, and moving toward that.

A year ago, I ordered a calendar from a dear, sweet, friend of mine. Her name is SC Lourie, and she pours out her heart and soul in her work. When I first read her work, my hope was to one day be able to allow myself to write raw, and heartfelt like she does. I have a ways to go, and there is only one SC Lourie, so today I share one of her heart felt writings with you.

This is her wish for your New Year. I pasted it in a new Journal, not realizing three months later it would become my Cancer Journal. It got me through sitting in many waiting rooms.

“I hope you get all that you genuinely want this year, I really do. I hope you leave a piece of you wherever you go, and discover a piece of you wherever you find yourself. I hope you realize it’s all about love. And that you look deep into the eyes of those you adore, and not shy away from them gazing back at you. I hope you will reach out and feel your beloveds, not flinching for fear of being rejected. And I hope you speak your mind. Well, really speak your heart. Yes, I hope you honor your heart this year, all the way through.”

“I hope you don’t get so busy that you forget life is about having a good time, and I hope you choose happy again and again. I hope you realize you don’t have to follow anyone. You can do life your way, and life will honor you for it. I hope you laugh wildly with your friends, and notice some beautiful things, so beautiful you have to share them and write them down. I hope you remember your own kind of beautiful, and no longer hide in the shadows. That you’ll feel lucky enough just to be you, and feel safe in your skin, like you’ll love yourself enough.”

“I hope you are kissed on the forehead by the wind, and sprinkled with inspiration from the stars. I hope you listen to good music, and read some incredible books, and make your home around those who love you for who you are. Be brave with your cuddles. Don’t hold anything in. And make time for the people and things that make you happy. Tread lightly sweet soul. There is only magic around you, and it’s not going anywhere. You’re safe. You’re well.” by SC Lourie. Happy New Year!
