This Is Only A Test

If you read my Blog yesterday, you know, I’ve been on vacation in Colorado with limited Internet. The home we’re staying in didn’t have it, so we would drive into town to find it. This is my last day here and it was installed today.

First and foremost, kudos goes out to Mr. Smith. He has been so patient with me this week. When you consider, everything I do is conducted virtually, it was not pretty the first few days. He is in the kitchen right now, being who he is, a Chef. I’m in the same room I was yesterday, typing this Blog with the windows open, listening to the musical sound of the river. This time, I’m not typing a word document to copy and paste later in town. I am actually online.

We respect one another for who we are and what we do. While he is in the kitchen, no one enters. Oh, it’s tempting, but one look from him and I know better. He plays music very loudly, and it’s a mixture of everything. I can hear it echoing through the house, down the hallway to the room I’m in. He just popped his head in the door, and asked if I was going to stay in here all night. I won’t, but it is a struggle not to stop and close the door on some of that music.

lakeI have spent almost a week in Colorado and it’s been beautiful. When people tell you to drink plenty of water in high altitude, listen to them. I was in a world of pain from dehydration. Drinking my usual, coffee in the morning, hot tea in the evening, and sips of water during the day wasn’t enough. I spent all day yesterday drinking water and my body thanked me today.

I know my body pretty well, but had not felt anything like this before. Once we pinpointed it was the change in elevation, about 6,000 feet, I knew what to do. With no distraction from technology, I was able to hear from God quite often. God gave me insight into the future of my writing, coaching, work, this school year for my daughter, my relationships and Himself.

The repacking process will begin this evening, to head back to Texas. My daughter turns sweet sixteen this Saturday and I wouldn’t miss it. We haven’t seen one another in over a week and that’s been an adjustment as well. We are best friends and she is a light in my life.

This was definitely a week of tiny tests, and I hope I passed them. There were a lot of little things that occurred, too many to list here, that were lessons. Being here placed me in present moment to present moment as I listened and learned. Gratitude is running high, for the friends and family God has given me and the love I have in my life today.

Feel The Pain

The most difficult part of being sober was actually feeling. One of the reasons I drank was to ‘not feel’ and face reality, so when that was removed, I had a flood of emotions to deal with. Living life on life’s terms was harsh reality.

When someone hurts you, it hurts. It’s a lot like an actual wound where you get cut, it bleeds, you stop the bleeding and give it time to heal. If you don’t take care of it, it can get infected or not heal properly. It takes time to heal.

letitgoWhen people hurt me, I try not to take it personally. It’s something they are going through and I just got it the way. If they hurt me continuously and I don’t remove myself from the situation, it’s like picking the scab off the original wound. It doesn’t have time to heal and the pain starts again.

Feeling the pain of being hurt, you must take time for yourself to let it heal. Some people hold onto the pain and let it fester into bitterness and resentment. This is a devastating way to live your life. Every time you are reminded of  the person who hurt you, the scab comes off and you bleed.

Go through the healing process and allow yourself time to realize you are going to be okay. Once the wound is completely healed, you’ll be better than okay. Every good cry, washes away the pain and makes me better than before. Get to the other side of pain and become stronger for it.

There is beauty on the other side. Everyone heals at a different pace, but it shouldn’t take a lot of time. A broken bone takes roughly 6 to 8 weeks to heal, but your heart may take more or less time. It depends on how deep the cut was. If you can forgive the person who caused you pain, step away and take time for the wound to heal, time will heal. Time and God can heal a broken heart. With God, you just have to make sure you give Him every single piece.

Just Fall Apart

My life has come so far in a rather short amount of time. Being in the middle of it, makes it difficult to see. My daughter told me, “I don’t think you realize how far you’ve come.” I was having a pity party, but it didn’t last long.

goodBeing a coach is not about giving advice. For me, it’s about listening to someone talk, until they find their own answers. We all know what to do. Being an adult should give you the knowledge of what’s right and wrong. Knowing and doing are two different things. Knowing comes easy but doing is when it gets tough.

Listening to someone talk, and then repeating things they say to you is all it takes. We have the answers, they just get buried underneath the circumstances. Saying them out loud, instead of letting them roll around inside us is healthy. Mama always said, “There’s more room out than there is in”, and that holds true.

When life is falling apart around you, let it fall. We try so hard to hold everything together, but I have found that is only a temporary fix. Pull yourself together and do the next right thing. Start sorting through what is wrong in your life and get to what’s right. What is right for you will be good for others. Go through the debris and find the beauty.

Gopher It!

unicornMy daughter and I have this thing we do. When she shares a great idea, I look at her and say, “Gopher it”! She does the same for me, creating a funny gopher imitation to drive the point home. In plain English it simply means, “Go For It”.

We are limited by our own thinking, so it’s best to leave my life alone and give it to God. “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” I’ve seen this verse come to pass in my life many a time. When I think I have a good idea, and put it into play, it usually serves as a springboard into what God has in store. My idea is not really my idea. It’s better than I could have thought of own my own, and God uses that to put me on the path He has for me.

I have a sign hanging in my office that says, “Good things happen to those who go for it!”

Detox 101

This week…I ran myself through a 24 hour detox. This was not on my list of things to do but I’m grateful it happened! That is Lesson One of The Letting Go Workshop-Letting Go of Negativity. It specifies the importance of a gratitude list. Today I am grateful to be alive!

heartbeatA month ago, my daughter and I joined a gym and started working out at least 4 days a week. Yesterday, I didn’t have the amount of energy I desired, so into the kitchen I went for experimentation. I discovered a liquid nutritional product that I used to take everyday. Since joining the gym, I had focused on protein and other supplements, and hadn’t taken in it a while. This product reaches you at a cellular level, so I poured a glass and drank it.

A couple of hours later, I poured another tall glass, and drank that too. My daughter and I went out to run some errands and within an hour, every vein in my body was screaming! I started feeling achy all over and having cold chills. We made it back to the house, and I curled up in my favorite chair, with a blanket. My body was taking turns breaking out in cold chills and heating up. The Letting Go Workshops taught me to listen to my body and give it time to heal itself. Lesson Three has you write this out:

My body is a master of healing itself. I now commit to giving my body the time and space it needs to heal each day. I now trust my body to heal.

mistakesCurled up in the chair, I did a recount of what I did that day that was different. Between working out and drinking the large amount of additional supplements, I had stirred up all the toxins in my body! This reminded me so much of The Letting Go Project I went through. My body was pushing all the toxins through every pore, and the lessons I did each week did something similar. I was able to stir up everything that wasn’t ‘adding’ to my life and physically and mentally release them!

Upon completion of The Letting Go Project, I had a new mind and a new life free from toxins. Just like after the detox, my body seems new and lighter. I encourage you to contact me today if you’re ready to detox your life. I’ll leave one of my favorite quotes for you to ponder:

Do the things you used to talk about doing but never did. Know when to let go and when to hold on tight. Stop rushing. Don’t be intimidated to say it like it is. Stop apologizing all the time. Learn to say no, so your yes has some oomph. Spend time with the friends who lift you up, and cut loose the ones who bring you down. Stop giving your power away. Be more concerned with being interested than being interesting. Be old enough to appreciate your freedom, and young enough to enjoy it. Finally know who you are. -Kristin Armstrong

Time For A Haircut

God has a plan. He promises it to be a good plan. If my life doesn’t reflect God’s goodness, then I’ve probably been working my plan, not His.  My reflection in the mirror revealed it was also time for a haircut.

I had the same hairstylist for years. She knew exactly how to cut my hair, how short to go, and how close to the edge she could step. Now that I’m an hour away, and enjoy my country life, I have started trying hair stylists that are local. I always say the same thing to them, “Have fun! I like short and edgy, but just make sure I can go out in public with it.” They have my permission to be creative.

Change is all around us. We can embrace it, or resist it, but it’s a constant in our daily life. Sometimes a change will occur, and it will affect our circumstances. By then, we feel the need to ‘fix’ our problem instead of facing what caused it. Learning to self evaluate, and make changes prior to seeing the circumstance, is a better way to live. You get to be proactive in your life. Pick your life…don’t let it pick you.

The Letting Go Project offers the opportunity to do this. It’s about making small alterations in the way we think and to our behavior patterns on a weekly basis. An easy way to see this is by looking at an over stuffed closet, or better yet, a storage room. Why are Storage businesses popping up on every corner? We cannot let go of our stuff. When looking at what I keep in my life, I ask myself this series of little questions:

Does it/they love me? Motivate me? Encourage me? Inspire me? Enhance me and/or Bring me joy?

If the answer is ‘No’ to any of these, then it’s time to reevaluate and prepare for change.

So…the haircut. The stylist I met with obviously knows the secret of change. She cut my hair in a specific way, the smallest sections at a time, to lay exactly as she intended. I usually leave a salon, go home to wash my hair, and get it back to my normal style. What looks normal to me anyway. No matter how hard I try to style it now, it lays in the fashion to which she cut it. Straight down and to the side, with a small spike at the crown. This frustrated me at first, but then I realized, I gave her permission to make a change.

Once you give yourself permission to change, things will fall into place. As long as I continue to style it the way she intended, it will look great! It’s when I start messing with it, and try reverting back the style I’m used to, it looks like a beaver that’s been electrocuted. Our lives have unlimited possibilities, and our God has no limits. It’s time to Let It Go and embrace what’s new. Quality of life you will enjoy the rest of your life.
