Because I’m Happy

There’s no more Christmas decor on the coffee bar. I took it down and packed it away yesterday. The Christmas tree is still standing. Not quite ready to give up the ambiance of the tree. It gives the room a cozy glow.

There’s not a lot of rules in my life.

I bought flowers today for no reason.

I don’t need a reason. Did I put off packing away the decor? No lovely, I was still enjoying it, until I wasn’t, and that’s when it was time to pack it away.

My daughter is concerned the tree may still be standing in June. It won’t last that long, but it’s still drinking water, so it looks good. It brings me joy, until it doesn’t and I’ll let it go.

My first thought was how bare the coffee bar looks without the decorations, but then I saw one of my favorite signs.

happy

When I saw it, I wondered if people had to look for reasons to be happy? Are they spending more time looking at reasons not to be happy? Some people are more comfortable not being happy. They’ve been unhappy for so long it feels normal, and they don’t know how to feel any other way.

Focus on what’s wrong, or find what’s right.

There doesn’t have to be a reason. It’s a choice. When my mind begins looking for reasons to be happy I simply respond, because I’m happy.

Feel the Music

It decided to rain today.

The dogs are not pleased, but patient inside.

They probably dislike that I’m perfectly content on rainy days by reading, writing or both. One sits beside me displaying his most pitiful expression, coinciding with a tail wag.

The day began with coffee and slid into English tea and scones. My daughter laughed when I told her, “I bought a fireplace!“, but it takes center stage on days like today.

My music taste recently on YouTube has been Lewis Capaldi. My daughter told me about him and he is referred to as ‘America’s Sweetheart.’ You can hear his voice because the instrumental is minimal.

After YouTube played several songs by Lewis, it created a playlist of similar artists. Normally, I feel a need to walk over and click ‘skip’ on the ads, or the song itself, but that didn’t happen today. It was a divine playlist that went from one heartfelt melody to the next.

It’s been playing for hours and I just now touched the screen to share this song with my daughter and you.

It’s been two years since posting my first Feel the Music and today, my darlings, that’s what I did.

Be at Home

I spent some time over the weekend looking at the changes in my life.

I went to see a neighbor yesterday and it was like stepping back in time. Her husband was sitting on the couch watching a football game. I had forgotten it’s football season. This time last year, I was sitting on a couch watching football.

Later, I was driving into town and saw an abundance of firewood for sale. This time last year was all about the firewood. Where I was, there was a fireplace. This year, I asked my landlord if he would be willing to to knock down a wall and put one in this little house. He said, “No.”

Hey, you don’t know until you ask.

My other neighbor told me I could buy a fireplace. He saw a little heater that resembled a fireplace, so I did some research.

fireplace

This is what I came home with.

I actually like this little guy better than the real thing. With the flip of a switch you have instant cozy, no mess and no wood to buy.

We have heard it said, ‘Home is where the heart is’, but today my darlings, this heart is home.

That Sunday Feel

Sunday’s are for wearing what I want.

November calls for layers. Jeans with holes worn in them. Chenille house shoes trimmed in fur with real soles to step outside if needed. I’m pretty sure nothing I have on matches, but it feels good, like a Sunday.

Our favorite blankets folded and ready for the taking on a nearby ottoman. Soft lighting and a few more candles lit than normal. The decanter is filled with hot cocoa, alongside giant marshmallows for roasting. November looks good on you Sunday.

Pretty much love these memes.

Here’s to you and having that Sunday feel.
