To Be Kind

I’ve been reading about being kind.

That may sound silly, but I want to go beyond nice, and be consistently kind. We can be nice, but that can be turned on and off. To be kind is deciding to do more. To be thoughtful and give from our hearts.

A Side-step

I’m beginning to believe ‘goals’ are overrated. This thought is surprising considering I used to assist people in achieving their goals. That was my goal.

For 25 years I was goal driven, and climbed the ladder of what is called success, but I was miserable.

I let go of worldly success to go in search of heart-filled happiness. Goal complete.

Don’t expect any credit for being kind, but you might get caught in the act. You can read Matthew 6, and see what God says about doing good deeds.

They are to be done quietly and with no praise.

Caught in the Act

I was walking through a parking lot, making my way to a small Craft Fair. Walking by a row of parked cars, a gas cap to one of the cars was hanging open. I reached down, put the plug in, closed the small door, and continued walking.

While talking with one of the Artisans at the fair, I suddenly felt a tiny tap on my shoulder. Turning around I was faced with an elderly lady that was very excited! She said, “Thank you for closing our gas tank!” I had no idea anyone was in the car!

I smiled as I stood there a minute, caught completely off guard. Then hugged her tight and told her, “You are most welcome my lovely!”

Thank you for your time.

Pondering the upcoming year, I haven’t pulled out my journal to make a new list of goals. My heart is content replacing the word ‘goals’ with ‘intentions’.

Thank you *Donna for the inspiration to be consciously kind. You did this for a year, and I’m following your lead. Its an action to impact people’s lives. A good start is when we can decide to be kind.

One More Day

The words that come out of my daughter’s mouth during conversation is like visiting with Yoda.

Tomorrow is my birthday.

I rolled out of bed with the Rolodex of this year, flipping through my mind. What have I accomplished? Am I on target with my goals?

She knows I do this twice a year.

The day before my birthday, and December 31st.

This morning she said something that shifted my perspective back to ‘the now’. She said,

Tomorrow you will not be a whole year older. You will just be one more day.

Thank you my darling daughter.

A Better Way To Live~Day 14

This is the time of year we reflect on our accomplishments for the year. Have you accomplished what you wanted?

You will achieve your grand dream, a day at a time, so set goals for each day-not long and difficult projects, but actions that will take you, step by step, toward your dream. Write them down, if you must, but limit your list so that you won’t have to drag today’s undone matters into tomorrow. Remember that you cannot build your dream in 24 hours. Be patient. Never allow your day to become so cluttered that you neglect your most important goal-to do the best you can, enjoy this day, and rest satisfied with what you have accomplished.

dreamsI’m sitting with my daughter, and we’re making a list of goals for 2015. This is phenomenal to me! She is at the age to take them seriously, and I’ll get to watch her take the stepping-stones God lays out toward her dreams. She’s young enough where she’s just getting started on life, and I’m mature enough where I’ve done a lot of life, including helping others achieve their goals.

I’m at the age now where I’m ready to step out and do a couple of things I’ve always wanted to do. Early in sobriety, I wanted to write a book to encourage others. Years later, I’m ready to write that book. My daughter is the artist, but I love working with my hands. Stained glass has always intrigued me because I love light and color. I’m going to try my hand at making stained glass.

Both of these have income potential, but that is not the reason I’m doing it. I’ll do it for the joy it brings and pray that they will bring peace and joy to others.

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do?

dreamsLet me encourage you today to choose one and add it to your goals for 2015. In the past I have allowed so much of life to run me. No more. It’s time to draw a line in the sand and accomplish a dream. Something that you’ve always wanted to do. What does that look like to you? Please share.
