Be a Friend

Going with the flow is sometimes difficult.

It’s so worth it if you can allow it to happen.

I was sitting at my desk, planning parts of my day. I had typed up a message, but hadn’t hit send yet, when my daughter walked up, and stood at my desk. I looked up at her, and grinned, knowing that she wanted something.

She asked if I could take her to pick up her car from the shop. It was ready. I deleted the message, and said yes. I had been playing message tag with this gentleman all week, over a piece of furniture I have for sale. It can wait.

life
My daughter gave me this for Christmas.

Opening the pantry in search of a bottle of water, I find one bottle of water sitting there. My daughter and I drink water by the case! She left the last one for me. It’s what we do. We leave the last of something for the other person, but I have been known to become selfish over the last piece of chocolate.

Unfortunately, my daughter believes it’s normal how we treat one another. She expects the same treatment from friends, but they weren’t raised in our home. She wants to make new friends since our move, and she asked me yesterday, “Mom? How do you make friends?”

I believe we show people how we want to be treated.

My daughter went to one of her favorite coffee shops, to take a break from studying. Her friend texted her, she shared her location, and invited her to meet. Her friend walked into the coffee shop, and sat down with her.

Twenty minutes later, my daughter was home.

Their meetup was brief, because my daughter cut the visit short. She revealed her friend was on her phone the entire time,  and actually face-timing another friend. After several minutes of seeing that her friend had no plan of getting off her phone, she excused herself, and came home.

Maybe our standards are too high in today’s world?

Yesterday, my daughter received a text from a friend. He was hosting a Bible study, and asked her to come. I encouraged her to go, not only for herself, but to be there for him. She was apprehensive not knowing the other people she may see, but wanted to see her friend.

I believed she saw her answer to her question from earlier in the day. The best way to make friends, is to be a friend.

Life Without It

I love the way God prepares me for what is next.

Everything you step out and do in life is practice.

It may not be a part of your plan, but by being willing to go forth, and just do, it will lead you onto the next thing.

worried

I was reminded this week, I cannot help people unless they are ready for change. It’s healthy for me today to set that boundary, and step away. I cannot save souls by posting on Social Media. It may make them feel better for a moment, but that is just a band-aid for something that runs deeper.

God gave me an idea on Monday, so this is day 3 of praying, pondering, and asking questions. I’m gonna move forward with it and see what happens. It is something I’ve done before, and it’s normally successful, but even if it’s not hugely successful, it helps others, and causes me to become better.

The biggest thing God has prepared me for recently is, not having Internet since Saturday. A short time ago, I would have come unglued. Slowly becoming disenchanted with technology, and letting go of all that a phone can do, has brought me to this peaceful space. The Internet will be back, but it’s nice to know, I’ve been able to enjoy life without it.

Feel the Music

Heard this song come on the radio this morning. It made me smile because I have learned this lesson.  The Don’t Wants.

Feel the Music (I Want Crazy)

My daughter and I drove to San Antonio this morning, but as we were getting ready, she played this song. It reminded me of the kind of love I’ve always wanted in a relationship.

Looking up the video to share with you, I noticed it was posted 4 years ago. That was right after I left my 25 year marriage, and vowed to myself this crazy kinda love. “I don’t want good, and I don’t want good enough.”

I’m not gonna settle for anything less than crazy. (The good kind)

Choose Happiness

Happiness is something you have to hold onto. Life happens fast, and circumstances can steal your joy. People will come into your life to steal your joy because they have none. We can share our joy with others, but don’t give it all away or allow it be taken. Life is 10% of what happens and the 90% is how we react. Hold on tight.

sign

Last week, I received a text from a friend I haven’t spoken with in a while. She was at one of our favorites stores and saw this sign. She sent me this pic and said, “Saw this today and it reminded me of you.” How sweet is that? I’m honored and delighted that she thought of me when she saw, “Choose Happiness.”

I was talking to another friend recently and listening to the problems she was facing in her life. They all stemmed from certain people she was allowing to be a part of her life. She probably saw a perplexed look on my face because I don’t have problems like that anymore. Why? Because I don’t allow people like that into my life anymore.

Set your standards high.

If you don’t like the way you are treated by some people then tell them. The setting of your standards and what you allow will attract those type people. Raise your standards and God will place people in your life to meet them. Continue to raise them and you’ll continually meet those people.

Don’t settle for the life you have now if you want one that is better. God promises that He has plans for us and they are more than we can even imagine or hope for. So, even the best life we can possibly imagine, God has more in store for us.

Going through the Letting Go process cleaned out a lot of stinking thinking and people. I expect from others what I expect from myself and my standards are high. This narrows the playing field, but I have a quality of life that is more than I could ever imagine or hope for. Choose happiness and surround yourself with everything it brings.
