A Lesson In Letting Go

Have helium balloons left after a party?

Sit Lotus style on the floor and take a few deep, cleansing breaths. Let your mind and body relax. You want to listen to what’s going on inside.

Do you have something causing you stress, worry, discontentment? Give it a name, grab a balloon, and a Sharpie. It may be a person or just a feeling you need to let go of. Whatever it is for you, write it on the balloon. Label as many as needed, gather them up and step outside.

Stand in a peaceful stance, somewhere quiet and unobstructed by trees if possible. Imagine the word on one of your balloons.

Lifting it above your head, allow the image to fill you as you take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, let go of the balloon. Repeat with every balloon until there are no more. You should feel lighter, and more at ease within.

This enables you to Let Go of what’s bringing you down.

God Is Sneaky

I’ve listened to a lot of Joyce Meyer over the years.

I enjoy her because she yells, and yes, I need that.

She went through a season where she was afraid to wear any of her favorite jewelry out in public. She was afraid God would tell her to give it away. I laugh at that now, but there was a season in my life it wasn’t so funny.

Everything we own is on loan to us from God.

You may think you bought something for yourself or a family member’s use, but God might have other plans. I have been standing at the checkout of a grocery store before, and the cashier fell in love with the bracelet I was wearing. As I said, “Thank you,” God prompted me to give it to her.

God is sneaky that way. A few weeks ago, I was standing in an aisle of one of my favorite stores looking at notebooks for my daughter. I spotted this wooden sign with one of my favorite verses on it. “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10.

The isle I was in didn’t have these on display, so it was out of place, just laying there for me to see. It is bright pink, which is not my style for this type thing, but I already knew it was not for me. It got my attention with it’s bright color, and that verse. My daughter looked at me inquisitively when I bought it, but then she knew. It’s not ours.

I collect those wooden signs, so God knew that I would see it. Do you have things you have bought and not sure why?

Let me encourage you today to be grateful for everything you have, look at what you don’t need, and ask God, ‘Who’s it for?”

The Snooze Button

You can only ignore it for so long. That dream God puts in your heart. We put it off and tell ourselves, ‘One Day.’ We are good at ignoring what we want to do, versus what we need to do. This week in my world, I had to stop ignoring.

We go through seasons and I went through a long season of survival. I was in survival mode for years. It was one of the most difficult times of my life.

It came down to working jobs I didn’t enjoy, to make money to keep what I had. I couldn’t let go of what I had worked so hard for. It was a vicious cycle of work, eat and sometimes sleep. God has better in store if I would let go of what I had.

It was a gradual procession and not as painful as I believed it would be. To let go of the house, cars, in ground pool, artwork, chandeliers, all these things I thought I had to have. There was so much stuff to take care of, I didn’t have time to care for me, or my family.

You should know by now, I live a simple, yet beautiful life today. The old saying, ‘less is more’ holds true. I am free to do whatever I want, whenever God opens the door. Being willing to walk through every door, and see if it’s something that aligns with my dream.

Being willing to move when God says move. That is what clicked this week. I’m a thinker and have been known to analyze every situation. Pick it apart so to speak. That is wanting to know the outcome first. Stepping into the unknown is a scary feeling and fear will set in to stop you. Face your fear. Face it and get moving.

The great thing about dreams are they don’t go away.

We leave our dreams, they don’t leave us. They will patiently wait on the sidelines until will take time for them. It’s time to stop hitting the snooze button.

Bruised, not Broken

Almost a year ago I received my Letting Go Coaching Certification. This process can help anyone who desires quality of life.

We start by adopting the perspective of our nervous system. You see, the body knows how to be healthy. If you spent time each day resting, remaining calm and you led a peaceful life, your body would remain balanced and healthy. This is because the space of rest allows the body to express its most authentic inner energy, the power of homeostasis (inner balance).

Your nervous system makes decision on your behalf. If you put your hand on a hot stove, the information travels up your arm to the spinal cord. The spinal cord nerves process the information and sends a command to your arm to pull the hand back. All of this occurs without the brain. It is the nature of the spinal cord to make an immediate decision on your behalf, much faster than it registers in the brain.

Have you ever touched something hot, recoiled and wondered why you did that? Your brain is processing what your nervous system already knew.

Have you ever noticed a bruise on your body and wondered where it came from? The moment it happened, it was painful and the brain took assessment of the pain. Life is a lot like that. We take on the painful experience, assess and move on to the next thing. What happens to that painful experience? It leaves a bruise.

My goal as a Letting Go Coach is to fine tune your awareness of what the body is telling you in the moment.  Our bodies are designed to heal themselves given the proper care and attentiveness. Letting Go of past experiences allows the bruise to heal quickly and you will begin to realize, it was only a bruise. You are not broken.

A Happy Moment

We met in the kitchen, staring at one another with that wide-eyed look of, “What do we do?”

It had been eight years since I had heard that noise requiring attention. It was almost 4 am, and this had been going on for a little while. The high-pitched cry, squeal and whining noise coming from the next room, had woken us up, and it was time for action. Not sure what type, we were going to have to dive in and start marking things off the list until happiness resumed.

This picture is my daughter, Bailey, and it describes her perfectly. She took this a couple of days ago, and when she showed it to me, my heart melted. I could see she wasn’t a little girl anymore and she was growing into a beautiful young lady. Wearing her Vintage, Polo golf hat and resting her arm on her treasured Taylor guitar.

She’s been wanting a puppy for months. We have been talking it through, and praying for the right time and the right dog to enter our lives. We knew that a neighbor’s Australian Cattle Dog, had given birth to a litter around Thanksgiving, so we went to look at them. Need I say more?

The sounds that woke us up in the middle of the night was her new puppy. We went through a series of activities trying to meet his basic needs. I finally held him close up against me and he fell asleep. All he wanted was to feel loved and secure. Just like us.

As I walked by her bedroom door this morning, I peeped in looking for the pup. He was sound asleep with her in the bed. Coming into the den with coffee in hand, it occurred to me that she could handle this.

Proverbs 22:6, “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.” She’s old enough now to do so many things without my assistance. My hope is that she will pass me and do more! It’s a hard to admit, but at the same time, it’s a happy moment.

Take It Or Leave It

We had a beautiful Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year. This has been a truly great year! That doesn’t mean it’s been easy or uneventful. I choose to look at life’s challenges as opportunity for growth. There is always something to learn, which is probably why I refer to ‘lessons learned’ so often. God willing, I will never stop learning.

Have you thought about what and who you’re going to allow to go with you into 2015?

I encourage to leave the past behind and step into newness. If you’ve been carrying the past with you, how has that served you so far?

I’m reminded “They can’t have a valid opinion where they don’t have any responsibility.”

Take some time before the New Year, and see how you want it to look. What would you change? When my daughter and I were moving from our existing life into a new one, she wasn’t sure what to take with her. She saw me packing up items, but being selective. I told her, “Only pack it if it brings you joy. If it adds love and light to your life, then bring it, otherwise, leave it.’

That is my best advice to you for the new year. If it brings you love, light and joy then take it with you, otherwise, leave it.
