Worth the Drive

In yesterday’s post, I revealed the soap at a local Shoppe that is my new love, but what really caused me to revisit the Shoppe three days later was this dish.

I saw it last week, but try not to make impulsive purchases. I’m particular about what comes into our home, but this little dish spoke to me about the tea cart.

Our home offers a coffee bar and tea cart. The cart came to us through a neighbor. It’s been used as a chopping station for her kitchen, but I saw it as a space for tea. The wood surface reveals stains and scarring, but I see it as evidence of serving it’s purpose.

In our home it holds a new purpose.

I bought the dish to hold our tea utensils, and give space for the tea bag to rest and cool before discarding.

It’s like that little dish knew where it’s home was. All I had to do was say, ‘Yes’, and go back and get it. I’ve learned there’s power in the pause. If I would have walked into the Shoppe and it was gone, then it wasn’t meant for me, but it was still there days later.

Driving back to the Shoppe for this dish, also gave me a new soap to love. Follow your heart. It’s worth the drive.

Wait For It

I forced myself to stop Blogging.

When I challenged myself to post a Blog a day in December, over time I hit a stride. That groove of posting everyday became a daily ritual, but was it fulfilling?

On into January, I was still posting everyday, but began to slow the pace. After posting The Mindless Activity I made the decision to stop for one week. That’s not easy once an action becomes ingrained.

It was as if I had created a new daily habit, but I don’t wish to become a daily Blogger.

I thought about it everyday, but told myself to wait. I’d hit the pause button and let the Blog ideas go. I knew from past experience not to pause too long. It’s very difficult to come back to it, with that struggle of paused to restart.

Some wait too long and don’t come back. That’s not for me, but I do want to hit a stride that works. Timing means a great deal while writing. To wait for that stillness, that deafening silence once the dust settles from the day or the week. Even if it drops to once a week, I’m going to wait for it.

Lay it Down

My favorite time to meditate is at night.

I’ve been drifting off to peaceful sleep like a child, listening to mindful sleep on Simple Habits.

Oren Jay Sofer is the narrator of this meditation and his voice alone will soothe you to sleep. Lastnight, he discussed Contentment. How does that feel?

Something he does in every session is this.

Once you find your comfortable sleep position, he suggests 3 deep breaths. Inhale and exhale until your breathing resumes a normal rhythm.

My favorite part is when he says, ‘Lay it Down.

Anything you left unfinished today. Lay it down.

I can feel my body sink a little bit deeper into the mattress when he says, “Today is over.” Just hearing those three words gives me confirmation of where I am. Laying in bed and getting ready for sleep.

How a lot of people envision meditation.

You don’t have to sit in any one position to meditate. You can meditate while standing, walking, sitting or lying down. It doesn’t require specific clothing because I’m literally laying in bed in my pajamas.

He always goes through a full body scan, but lastnight he dug deeper into the feeling of contentment within the body. He acknowledged parts of the body and paused to thank them.

Beginning at the top with the eyes.

I take for granted what all my eyes do throughout the day. The same with most parts of my body. Just like sitting here typing and watching my fingers flutter over the keys making this post possible. The eyes and fingers are small, but do great things.

As we did our body scan, Oren would pause on a particular body-part such as the eyes, neck, shoulders, arms or torso. Literally breaking down specific parts and he would bless them by saying…

So tonight my lovelies, as you prepare to fall asleep, take a moment to let it go and lay it down.

Pause and Unrush

Today was the first day in my journey with SC Lourie, and let the floodgate open. I’m not even halfway through the material for this week because I got hit between the eyes with a word.

That word is, “Unrush.” I could finally totally relate to this word.

It was such a beautiful day, I grabbed a journal, pen, a chilled glass of ginger ale, and stepped outside. I sat everything down and it was the picture of unrush. Sliding my phone out of my back pocket to take a photo, it happened so quickly, the glass didn’t have time to defrost.

My first thought was, three years ago, at the beginning of this journey, I wouldn’t have done this. Being completely honest with myself, I’m not sure I could have done this a year ago.

To give myself permission to stop, and enjoy the moment. I was married for 25 years, and don’t recall this simple act of unrush.

Always moving and rushing to get things done. Maybe you can relate. Life happens quickly, and I believe we have to make ourselves pause in it. To just pause and enjoy the exact moment we’re in.
