Stay In Today

The high temperature today in Texas was 40°. My 10:00 am Dentist appointment was in the forefront of my mind.

While at the Dentist, I overheard people calling in canceling, but was really glad I didn’t. I told the hygienist, “Nobody wants to leave their house today.” Tomorrow will be even more difficult to step outside. They say the low tonight is 28°.

I’m practicing what I know to stay in today. Not inside my house, but in the actual day.

Life just flows better when I’m present and do what’s right in front of me to do. It’s so easy to mind jump into tomorrow, next week, or next month, but doing that stagnates the natural flow. When I allow my mind to travel the well-worn path of future thinking, I miss out on the little things of today.

So, I stayed in today and it flowed. After the Dentist, I went to the market and picked up items to make dinner tonight and tomorrow night. That’s as far ahead as I would let myself think, and then I came back to today.

No matter what you have before you lovely, I encourage you to stick with it and stay in today.

It’s Pretty Ugly

I took a friend to meet Stephanie today. You may or may not recall but, Stephanie is who gave me the courage to care for plants. Everyone needs a Stephanie in their life.

Getting out of my truck, this caught my eye. It has been hanging there for some time, and I have walked by it a countless number, but today it spoke to me.

My daughter is still in shock that I brought it home!

She asked, “How much was it?” I cheerfully replied, “Stephanie let me have it for 9 bucks!” My daughter looked confused. This was so unlike me to buy something that wasn’t pretty.  I have already received $9 worth of joy from it.

Some days look pretty, but some days feel ugly, and it’s okay to have both.

A Better Way To Live~Day 12

Years ago, I was looking out my patio door at the swimming pool in the backyard. The water had a hint of green to it, which was not a good thing. Looking back on it now, there were a series of little things going on that made me notice the big thing.

Are you more attuned to the little things, or the big things in life?

Never neglect the little things. Never skimp on that extra effort, that additional few minutes, that soft word of praise or thanks, that delivery of the very best that you can do. It does not matter what others think, it is of prime importance, however, what you think about you. You can never do your best, which should always be your trademark, if you are cutting corners and shirking responsibilities. You are special. Act it. Never neglect the little things.

Maybe the water wasn’t circulating enough, or the salt was low and not able to produce enough chlorine. There was a checklist that I went through in my mind, but had to go out to the equipment to investigate.

There is usually a little thing not functioning at its highest potential, that causes a breakdown in the rest of the natural order of things. We see it everyday, and if ignored, will cause a domino effect and after time, a really big thing will be staring you in the face.

Like your vehicle telling you it’s time for an oil change. Someone said recently, “Oil is cheap. Parts are expensive.”

For me to be fulfilled it’s all the little things that fill me up. It’s not big, or expensive anymore, it’s just the little things in everyday life that bring me joy. I notice the little things, and hope today that you will too, because they are indeed the big ones.
